Custom version of linuxmint boots to GNU Grub version 1.99 instead of desktop (urgent

To be more exact I was using Linux Mint 11 when this problem came. I used remastersys to make an ISO for the os. already have it burned to a dvd and booting which works fine. how ever when I installed it to a hard drive took the disk out and reboot my computer, it show that gnu grub thing and not the desktop. can anyone pin point what i did wrong or does it have to do with the os grub loader? please I really want to fix this so I can upload my complete custom os to you guys to check out without that freaken grub boot thing showing (please excuse my languish). Also I have uploaded that custom iso if you guys can download it and be able to better identify that problem better. The download is on this youtube video.

Which option did you use in Remastersys? dist? backup? other?
You will need to be more specific about "that GNU Grub thing"? Do you just see a grub prompt, grub version or ?? Do you have anything else (other operating systems) on the drive? Did you install Grub from Mint to the master boot record? Not much info to go on.

I don't have any other os just mint right now. I used the dist setting in remastersys and then created a usb startup on an external hard drive.

Live boot from hard drive works and i can get on desktop but not after its been installed on an internal hard drive.

yes I believe I have installed and reinstalled grub2 countless times trying to fix this from an external hard drive and its not even working. It shows the prompt saying

"GNU Grub Version 1.99 mint1"

"Mininmal BASH-like editing is supported etc"

I'm not even sure if remastersys Isn't coping grub2 or is it just the OS itself not letting it do so or I simply am not doing it right.

I've used remastersys with various versions of Ubuntu including Mint and have installed a couple to hard drive just to test. Didn't have the problem you are reporting. Where does the usb startup fit in here? I'm not familiar with it. I usually just boot the iso image file in VirtualBox to test it before wastng a CD/DVD. Have you tried to iso in VirtualBox?

I'm not sure what the quote above means? Is the problem that you are not able to boot your remastered Linux Mint? To check the boot files, the easiest thing would by to run the bootinfoscript. See the link below, might help you understand or post it here.

I Believe it has more to do with the the way remastersys makes a copy of the filesystem to add to the ISO file or perhaps I have moved the setting on my OS to the point I messed up the boot loader of the installed OS if thats the case.

Yes I have used Virtualbox before I had an internal hard drive dock installed on my computer. I prefer a real computer over Virtual. I use it more for running windows from there now in days.
Did you know that its possible to turn any external drive into a bootable usb hard drive as if you were using a CD or DVD? The difference is that you can add or remove stuff from there.

Anyways the main problem is not the live installer but the boot loader after the OS has been installed in another hard drive showing that GNU Grub Menu.

In case your not sure what I mean by that. Then you may download the ISO I made and you'll see what I mean

Yes this Iso is out of date. Keep in mind that this is a concept only but I it still needs work on it. Ill explain the rest after you reply.

mhmmmm alright I'll try that bootinfoscript and see what I get.

I wouldn't expect that to be a problem. Your remastered iso file will boot with isolinux/syslinux and when you install, if it is done properly the installed system should boot with Grub. That's the way it worked with mine. Something apparently went wrong during the bootloader installation to the hard drive and the bootinfoscript might help to resolve that.

I tried it and run it from the terminals and that fixed it. It works. thank you so much for that. I've been fighting with that for awhile and now it done and over with. For those reading this post trust me this will work with any os that uses grub. just right click and click on run or run in terminal.thanks yancek.

just as I thought by running that script solve my problem on one computer. it turns out that it didn't fix the boot loader after the os has been installed completely. ok heres what im trying to fix here. I have tried countless times fixing grub2 from the live hard drive (not cd or dvd)from coping files to using boot-repair. I think remastersys is failing on me for not getting a working grub bootloader. I'm not sure how am I going to fix this or find someone who knows how to fix this. this gnu grub menu editor or whatever it's called is driving me crazy.
