Custom Splash Animated Boot Screen

I have found various tutorials for creating a custom splash startup or bootup screen, but I cannot find anything that talks about how to animate the picture. Can someone provide me with some useful tutorials or information? I'm looking for GRUB specific information, since I do not use LILO
