custom messages

When you FTP or Telnet into a Linux machine, how would I go about creating a custom login message?

I have noticed that on some servers, there is no identification when Telneting in.

Thanks in advance...

Check out this thread:

It discusses /etc/issue /etc/ and /etc/motd

For FTP, it may depend on the FTP server you are using. Check for a *.conf file in /etc that is related to your FTP server (e.g. ProFTPd uses /etc/proftpd.conf)
