Question CUPS install has lost lp command

I've just installed CUPS on my SME server (red-hat based, I think) and although I can print through the CUPS interface, from the command prompt the system say that the lp, lpr and lpsts commands aren't recognised, and neither are they present in the MAN. I've looked for lpr files to restore them, but have drawn a blank. The server-manager says that my laser's there, and it test-prints OK, so the basic function has to be there (?) but the command-line prompt escapes me.

Anybody hit similar?

Did printing work before you installed CUPS (ie did you use lprng or something else)

When I changed from lprng to CUPS on my computer, I lost the lp commands, etc.

I found that lpr is actually a symbolic link in /usr/bin to /usr/bin/lpr-cups. The same for all the other commands. So try printing using lpr-cups. If this works, then change the links to point to lpr-cups.

Code:
rm /usr/bin/lpr
ln -s /usr/bin/lpr-cups lpr
I hope this helps

yes, normal printing was available, but the laser printer kept refusing to 'newline' so the lines dropped one, but ran off the edge of the page, which is why I decided to install CUPS. I tried your idea of linking and got a 'library missing' message, at which point bells started to ring, and when I looked back through my logs/notes, one of the commands I was instructed to use was an rpm on various libraries to ensure that they didn't conflict with the new install of CUPS. I've now decided to re-install, as it's a quicker option - I've got a full data backup, only 5 users and a spare Saturday afternoon!

Many thanks for your help.
