crontab editor changes


hi....iam using cron to schedule backup system,everytime i use crontab -e to edit crontab file the default editor is Vi and iam not that so familiar to vi commands iwant to changes to pico...
i try to run command
/#echo $SHELL
/#bash
/#echo $EDITOR
/#vi
/#export EDITOR=pico
/#echo $EDITOR
/#pico
Now went i try to run crontab -e ..... the default editor again is vi
i try to run pico in command prompt and nothing wrong,what seem to be the problem???pls helpme thks in advance

this may or may not be the problem, but setting your $EDITOR variable to be 'pico' in a terminal is only a temporary solution. it is only valid within that terminal, and is not set on any new terminals, or if you log out and in again... i would suggest trying to set it permanently (in your .bashrc file for example)

i could be wrong here, but that would be my first guess...
