Creating shortcuts for new programs

One nice little feature about win apps was that when you installed them they automatically created a shortcut and placed it in your start menu. i'm lazy thus....

for one to do this in our world would i make a symbolic link and place that in my kde menu. i'm unable to check where they reside within the filesystem. i'll have to look that part up. =[

Most apps/executables you install will usually be placed in /usr/bin or /usr/local/bin
