creating my linux distribution

hi friends,
i am interested in creating my own linux distribution, a special distribution for the schools . I am working in school linux project under a NGO, wherein we are installing LTSP clients free for the rural schools of india.

but everytime, we need to create a server, mandrake needs to be installed and then a whole lot of packages for schools needs to be loaded from a different cd.

many packages in the mandrake again are not needed.

i have tried lfs and then blfs a lot. I didn't suit our needs either.
Can u anybody guide us, point to us of any such url that has in depth technical information.
please...

alex

Well, LFS would probably be your best starting point, as when your creating an LFS system, its basically showing/teaching you what needs to be installed to get the most basic functioning system. Beyond that, is up to you to install anything else you might need which is the BLFS is sort of a guide.

I personally don't know of any others except LFS and such.. that would be my starting ground if I were to create my own custom distro.

Also, you can google around (I'd give you links, but I don't have them handy) I've read several GOOD articles about how to customize a Knoppix distro for your own use...so that might be another way to go also (as opposed to LFS).

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.

*Note - Didn't realize you double posted this also in LFS, this one being closed. Review the rules you agreed to by the above link.
