Creating a linux partition and wireless networking

Hi, i have a wireless router connected to my main computer (a linksys wrt54g) and this serves about 3 laptops. At present regardless as to whether the main computer is; on the connection is always available. I've recently been playing with knoppix on my laptop, but i'm looking for something a bit more permanent and so i'm thinking about creating a disk partition on the main computer with some sort of linux distribution on it (probably not knoppix but we'll see)
Anyway, my question is, if i create this partition will the network be unavailable:
1. When the computer is turned off
2. When the computer is running linux instead of windows.

I don't think the other network users would appreciate it being unavailable
Thanks for any help people can offer.

Dan.

Network

If I am understanding your question correctly: You are considering adding a partition to a computer on your network, not a server, and putting Linux on it? If that is the case, you should have no problems with the other computers accessing the network.

I have a mixture of Windows and Linux computers on my home network, no issues. Try the Knoppix cd on the computer you are thinking about installing Linux on, and see you have any network problems.

Have a good one.
