Creating a custom bootable distro

Is it possible to create a bootable distro or modify an existing one. I am really looking for the simplest method possible to do this as I'm not that great with linux yet. I can do most stuff though.

Goto the 'Linux - Distributions' section and look at 'Linux From Scratch'

They have a lot of information on how to create your own, for whatever purpose.

There are tutorials for Knoppix and Morphix.

I also wrote one, but it's Debian specific and it doesn't preconfigure X.
