crash - no log entries

Hi
I am fairly new to Linux but ok with computers in general. I am running a 64studio dist (umbutu kernel with tweaks) and recently box powers down without instruction. I can't find any entries in either var/log/messages or /var/log/syslog -- both just record 'restart' at the time I reboot. I suspect hardware but would like any advice on where else to look, monitors to use etc to help track this.

Many thanks

Then either the app or part of it isn't set to report. Or some part can't report in time.

Run all sorts of diags. Start with memetest for a few days. Run it in a hot cold chamber if you can. Flex the board. Look for cold solder joints. Consider esd damage to parts. Look at bios settings. Look at the quality and condition of cables and connectors. Look at power supply and bios settings. Dunno, maybe a few more.

Just depends on how needed this is. If it is mission critical then buy an enterprise level system that has linux fully supported on it. It may still fail but they are usually well tested.
