Crackling sound when raising bass level
A problem i've had with every distro i've tried. Also one of those little things that keeps me booting back to windows occasionaly ;)
I want more bass so i go to kmix and raise the bass level. However, when i'm about 75%, the bass starts to "crackle". It kind of feels as the sound card would not be used at its full capacity and the sound gets distorted (excuse my poor description). In windows i can raise the bass level quite comfortably to about 90% and past that it's my headphones that's the limiting factor. I hope you understand what i'm trying to say here :) Sound card is SB Live Audigy |
spaceboi; hum sounds as an electronic gremlin( capacitor) not charging or releasing emf. distortion is an indicator of component failure.

I had this problem too, so try this (which worked for me):
go into kmix, check "Advanced" and turn off the "Tone" radio button. I think it works like a tone button on a guitar, where if you have the tone on and jack up the volume, you get distortion, like a computer version of an overdrive pedal. |

Any further ideas? |
A simpler way:
I'm assuming you're using ALSA, so instead of Kmix, use aumix or alsamixer those work really well, and don't have that tone option, so you don't get el screwdo'd by that good luck |
