cpu usage


hello..
Is there a file that keeps track of the total CPU usage of the system?If so can you please mention the file...

By default, I don't think such a feature exists.

You can try atop which writes informations to a file.

Yes. There is the pseudo file "/proc/loadavg" which has the system load in the last 1 minute, 5 minutes, and 15 minutes.
There is other data after the system load. I don't know what they means ... anybody knows ?

you could try using gkrellm, it does a good job getting you the data. There may even be a option to log data inside gkrellm.
