CPU usage

Does anyone know of anything that will track Users processes and how much time their processes take up on the CPU. I'd like to keep track of several users and what processes they run on a system to see if the processes they are running are making good use of the cpu.

I'm look for some kind of process accounting program. Using top or ps is too general. I mainly want to find out what processes are taking up too much cpu time and what processes are freezing or being bad to the system.

Look into BSD style process accounting. Unfortunately, process accounting is not configured in to most distro's kernels, so you'd need to recompile your kernel to support it and then get the userspace tools. Maybe someone can suggest an easier alternative if your kernel doesn't have process accounting configured.

I was hoping to run it on RH72 or Fedora Core 3. How can i tell if it is compiled into the kernel for RH72?
