CPU Temp. Above Threshold spammed to terminal

Hello all,

on my Alienware laptop, which ran Fedora Core 3 fine, I am now running FC 4, same as my PC. I occasionally do some programming in java for my classes on it. The programs are for labs and arn't very large, but I would only be running a few browser tabs, emacs and maybe gaim. When the messages start spamming to the terminal (constantly, moving what i am doing out of the way) I noticed the computer does seem quite hot. Specs:

Alienware Area 51m
P4 w\ HT 3.4ghz
1 gb ram
nvidia geforce go 5700 128mb

And the messages are of the sort "CPU above threshold" "runnning in modulated clock mode"

Or something of the sort. If I get them again soon I'll try to post the exact message. I'm on my PC now.

The computer runs Doom 3 in windows fine without overheating, so I am sure it can handle fedora and compiling java programs and the jvm. I haven't had much time to investigate as I am very busy with school. But if anyone has ANY clue as to where I can start looking, I would appreciate it.

ALSO, when I open the hardware monitor it shows CPU usage, which seems extremely high for what I am doing, and the computer does actually get really hot. It seems as though something, some process or something soaks up cpu time causing all the stress.

Sorry for the brevity, but I am very tired. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like it actually is running too hot. You should take steps to correct this immediately as this condition can in time shorten the system's life. As a first step, try running "top" and see if there's anything eating up a lot of CPU power.

I've had this problem before. Seemed to pop up when my CPU started working hard. I never could figure out what the problem was. I'm interested in finding out what you come up with.

I have not been able to install Fedora on my Alienware laptop. The first install CD does not recognize any hard drives. I attempted to install the Promise SATA driver prior to setup, but that doesn't seem to help. Could you tell me what you did to get the Fedora install to recognize the hard drive?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have tried this with Fedora Core 5 and with Red Hat Enterprise WS 4 Update 2. I had the same results with both.
