Question Cpoying files problem

Hi guys

I have a wierd problem copying large files. I mounted a Windows drive using mount -t smbfs and then tried to copy a large file about 10Gb into my root partition. After about an hour it failed with "input/output error". I tried FTPing the file and this also failed. When I tried copying the file using Gnome Nautilus it gave me an error message saying I did not have enough space to copy the file. This is wierd as I have a 40Gb hard drive and when I do df-k or aother variations is shows that /dev/hda1 has 34Gb free..

Any ideas?

I checked my ulimit and this is set to unlimited.

I'm using Debian 3.0 2.4kernel.

Thanks
Jagz.

Might be the 2GB limit that is default in the kernel. Have you tried recompiling your kernel to support files larger than 2 GB ??
