cp command problems, bus error, and syntax

I tried copying a fat16 windows98 partition to a new drive using Finnix.

cp /mnt/windows1 /mnt/windows2 -p -r -R -v

Is that right? Well, all was fine for a while. Then it ended by saying Bus Error. What's the deal? It must be me. Thank you for responding.

is this the same prob you were posting about in the General forum? please don't double post. it make it easier not to be answering the same questions twice for everyone.

:-)

No, this is a different problem. I am working on a few different tasks at the same time, but they involve the same type of stuff.

I think it is good to make suggestions that people don't double post. A readable and efficient forum is good. I'll try to make my posts more readable. If anybody has suggestions for how I may post better I will happily comply.

Thanks for your patience and help.

- ok. yea... sorry about that then. we've had a spate of double posters here lately... and kewp and i are about ready to pass the torch on to anyone else who wants to take that duty...

anyway... the format looks good on the cp command... i'm not sure i've ever encountered a bus error before... it sounds kinda like a hardware problem, but i don't think it is. are you changing file system types during the cp? or are they both fat16? also... last question ... does the cp copy anything, or does it just abort completely without making any changes to the filesystem?
