Copy and Paste problem in emacs on Fedora 4
I am using emacs 21.4.1 on Fedora 4.
But when I try to copy from Emacs and paste it to other application on Fedora 4 (e.g. Firefox), it does not work. (nothing got paste). Does anyone have the same probelm, and how do you fix that? Thank you. |
Try clicking your mouse wheel button.

There are two ways to copy and paste in X:
1. highlight with mouse to copy, middle-click to paste (always works, very convenient) 2. use the ctrl-C or ctrl-V or something like that (works in some GUI apps but not other apps like Emacs) |
something to get your brain around.
there are actually three levels of clipboard in X emacs kill/yank ring uses what is the top layer or "primary selection buffer". this is accecced in other applications as someone pointed out using middle mouse clicks. problem you are having is actually with other application using secondary not primary selection buffer for menu driven cut and paste. the whole setup in general like everything Linux is more complex than what you are used to but also more usefull and powerfull. |
