convert read only filesystem to write?...

err, ive typed this out twice...lol, so ill make it short ;) i installed dsl (damn small linux) pre-modified on an external usb hdd. when i finally got it working, i found out thats its read-only...ehh...it has apt-get though O_o...so, is there a way that i can make this filesystem be writeable? (i used a premodified version, but i also read the tutorial...i put it on a FAT16 partition like it told me to...kinda weird for linux, lol. can ya plz help me??....

Oh, and the link to the tutorial i read is here

partition tables are defined in /etc/fstab; man fstab will explain.

however, it sounds like your linux is in a single partition, so you need to set it to readable at system start-up; what boot manager are you using? lilo or grub? Depending on your answer, you need to modify either /boot/grub/grub.conf aka menu.lst or /etc/lilo.conf (or wherever it's hiding - e.g. "locate lilo.conf" or "find / | grep lilo.conf").

PS: Do you mean you have a USB hdd, not a stick? It can't be as small as 50MB, surely?! You may want to think about repartitioning....

well...i couldn't get it to work...i use lilo.conf a lot, and i havent found out how to make it give write access....i wish i could get another OS to work...any other suggestions? lol (if u know another linux distro that wont need severe modifying to boot from usb...that would be great..)

I'm such a :newbie: lol
