Control Center Problems
I've successfully installed Mandriva Linux 2005 Limited Edition which opens to the KDE Desktop. I'm trying to install a Wireless Device, and have successfully found all the files and got a license from Linux ant, and am now trying to configure the device open a network and get on the Net.
It seems like everywhere I turn I get referred to the "Mandrake Control Center" or the "KDE Control center" or the "Mandrake Linux Control Center" I can't figure out how to open the Control Center. Have I missed something in the installation? I mean I'm beginning to think it is not even there. I suspect there is a simple answer, for this really real newbie. Thanks for any help. |
At what point are you in your driverloader config? It is GUI independent, althouth it is easier to configure with GUI once you use a browser to load the license.

Thanks for replying xb.
I am able to go to Mozilla enter the Http/127.0.0 - - - etc. After each reboot the Linxuant Driverloader screen initially reads No Devices Found, but once I click on the reload option a message comes up "All devices are licensed and configured" and shows a device "eth0" with the MAC address, a license expiration date screen, followed by an option to go to settings. I'm thinking that from here I should go to the control center (which I can't find) and set up the wireless card for my network. I'm using a wireless router with Verizon DSL as my service. Any suggestions and help appreciated. P.S. Ref your comment regarding age, I am so so greatful, at this age, that I have been immature my whole life. P.S.S. I'll be out of contact for at least all day tomorrow, have a Grandson to Baptise - Opa sends. |
OK, unfortunately I don't know too much about the Mandriva distro.. Sounds like you've got driverloader configured fine, although I've never had to refresh to see the device and license..
Anyway, I believe you can get into the Mandrake Control Center going through the menu, select System -> Configuration -> Configure your computer You should have a Network & Internet tab where you can configure your network connection through the wireless card. If you want to try it by hand, just open xterm (or other console) and run su. If you accesspoint is called "foo" then here are the commands I would try to bring it up: iwconfig eth0 essid foo iwconfig eth0 key off dhcpcd eth0 This will point the wireless card to the access point, turn off WEP and instruct the dhcp client to bid for an IP address, DNS server and set up the default route. (Of course this won't work if you don't have DHCP enabled on your AP.) Alternatively instead of dhcpcd, you may need to try dhclient eth0 Congrats and enjoy the baptism :D |
