content management systems
as of late i've been trying to set-up a few of the many open source cms's out
there, in particular Drupal which I had no luck with ,and then Postnuke . I was unsuccessful with both after many tries . The thing that's really pissing me off is how they all have such simple installation instructions , which are basically impossible to get wrong. And I'm here freakin stumped . For some reason I have a feeling I'm doing something wrong with MYSQL , because in the postnuke installl a database was supposed to be created by the install script with the aid of my supplied database superuser and password but it never does. Has anyone that has successfully set up a content management system have any ideas on what i'm doing wrong? In mean time i'm going to attempt to install another cms from this link http://www.la-grange.net/cms#php check it out!? |
I don't know what problems you might have ran into (you don't mention any specifics at all), but I have a tip: try Nucleus CMS . I am using it and it was not hard to install.
Comes with an active community and much good online documentation. Eric |
thanks for your opinion i'll certainly try out the CMS u recommended.
The thing is there isn't any specifics all i did was go through the install process and it never installed from what i understand. And noone at the DRupal forums had any advice. |
what about mambo? or joomla! ?;)
mambo is one of the top 3 most used Opensource CMS out there... Joomla! is a remake of mambo with extra security and other extra's. www.mamboserver.com www.joomla.org |
Well thanks alot alien bob. I tried the cms you suggested
but I still couldn't install it , But it did give me an interesting error message , It said something like php was not configured to work w/mysql. So i got really excited 'cause I thought all i had to do was uncomment a line in php.ini . But sadly the mysql module was loaded. Sooooo what do you think? |
I think you should re-install mysql, php and apache from
your original slackware packages :} Cheers, Tink |
Tinkster , what's your resoning behind that. Do you think the f#ck up is in the fact that I installed apache during orignal OS install? I'll try it. Thanks for the suggestion.

I've just tried Drupal and it installed fine on Mandriva 2006 RC using custom compiled apache, mysql and php packages. The instructions seem to be quite straightforward. Also try Mambo, its quite simple to install. I use webmin to create the mysql user and databases because I find the interface quite simple to use.

packages quite well, and that they should interact well out of the box. If your MySQL doesn't work properly I'd start over with his defaults for all packages. [edit] In addiditon to that: Have a look at zope and plone [/edit] Cheers, Tink |
mysql seems to working fine , but anyways where can i get Pat's packages?

Off your slackware CDs...
Notabene: If you re-install them Slack won't touch modified config-files. You may want to move those out of the way. Cheers, Tink |
