Hopefully a simple solution to my simple problem... my roomate has a CDRW on his comp, I do not... I want to connect our computers so i can burn some of my files onto CD because i want to reformat my HD... I dont have the right USB stuff but Ive heard its possible through ethernet... we have ethernet cables, i just need to know if theres any trick to it, or just plug and go? thanks in advance for any help.

To connect two computers ethernet ports, you need either two cables and a hub/switch or a "crossover" cable. A "straight through" cable, which most are, will not work. Most places that sell cables sell both kinds. Check the labels.

You probably have conventional ethernet cables but they are not crossover cables?

whats the difference with the crossover cables? different pin location? i have a few ethernet cables, can i just splice one? lol

whats the difference with the crossover cables
For a crossover cable the connection will be of the type
1 <-------------> 3 2 <-------------> 6 3 <-------------> 1 6 <-------------> 2 rest will be the same as a cat/5 cable. Got it. Kausik :Pengy: |
