Confused and Paranoid XP - RH 8 Install

Help Please..

First of all I'm not afraid of change only "data loss". I have so much on my XP drive it would take me a month to recover.
Anyway:

Running XP and installing RH 8 on separate drive (hdb). Want to do the dual boot option. I've read through the install manual and yes, have searched the forum. Maybe I'm just ignorant but still don't quite understand the "boot loader" part. During the actual install process I chose "Lilo" as the bootloader..The part I don't get is where to put it at. It also asks which OS do you want it to boot, (you can choose "add" also) the only options there are dos and linux.. Do I need to add XP or will dos boot it...

Can someone please enlighten this feeble mind.

Help please..

the one labeled as dos is windows, you can rename it if you want. I usually rename it to something like WinXP or WinME or whatever you want.

It is asking which one you want as the default. The lilo menu will ask you at boot which one to boot up and will load the default in a few seconds if you do nothing.

once you finish and boot linux you can change things in lilo.conf if you want.

put lilo on the MBR

I might add that there is little danger of messing up the winxp install. if you later remove lilo from the mbr windows will boot again like it did before lilo was installed.

yup, lilo goes to the MBR of the first drive (your windows c drive). If you manage to fuxor something up, then just boot with the win98 boot disk, and do fdisk /mbr, it will restore everything back to how it was before.
