configure Openoffice Sheet to recognize numbers
 
i have installed OpenOfice Sheet on my computer under Linux Operating System(Fedora 7) but when i copy data from a web page and paste into it , it takes the datas as text not as numeric number.How can i configure it to recognize those datas as numeric numbers

Help me

Can you provide an example of the data you are pasting?

I think you mean OpenOffice Calc (spreadsheet program)

I think that in any spreadsheet SW, mixed letters and numbers will be interpreted as text. Some quick tests with Calc shows these non-numeric characters that are treated "numerically": "+", "-", ".", "$", "%". Are there more???

Interestingly:
65- is converted to -65
+78 OR 78+ both come out as just 78

BUT:
65+23 is read as text
