Question Configuration of a Computer Workstation with Network

Hi! I need to build up a computer Workstation with network.

The platform of the workstation should be Linux, and the other computers that linked to this workstation will be either with Linux or Windows platform.

Basically, the workstation should be able to run some simulation programs for research purposes, etc..

[1] What are the Hardware requirements for a workstation (for example, the computer configurations of the workstation)?

[2] What are the Softwares for the Network system (linking from: linux to linux, linux to windows, windows to windows)? The function should be something like the person from one computer can access to another computer through the network.

Hope somebody can give me some suggestions, comments, advise, etc..

Please Help!

Thank You!

Regards,
San

Hardware requirements depends on what you want

- If you want to run simulation programs (VMware for example) you really need a good computer with much MEM

- Second question: DO you want filesharing between workstations?

Thank you Greetz Bart.

Is there any minimum requirement of hardwares for a good workstation? Or simply some suggestions or samples of the computer configurations?

I will probably get a big memory size like 1 to 4 GB, Dual Processor Capable, etc..

Yes, I want to share files among the computers. The network I will use is the existing LAN network in the campus.

Hope to get some comments, etc..

Regards,
San

Hi

If you have 1-4 GB and dual processor you have a really good server ;-)

use samba3 for domaincontrolling and sharing files / maps
