Computer Freezes abrutly, no errors in logs
All -
I have computer with mandrake 10 on it. everything has been super for a while. All the sudden, it has this new problem where it ceases all activity. it is still on, but video is gone, networking stops, logging stops, etc. after rebooting it, there is nothing in the error logs suggesting anything happened. An example of syslog: Code:
Mar 6 11:00:00 edc CROND[32230]: (root) CMD ( /usr/share/msec/promisc_check.sh) The only errors I have are Code:
vesafb: probe of vesafb0 failed with error -6 Code:
[Thu Mar 09 16:17:00 2006] [emerg] (35)Resource deadlock avoided: couldn't grab the accept mutex Thanks! |
I can tell you that the vesafb and agpgart are related to your graphics (video) adapter.
Did you upgrade drivers lately? Do you have another video card you can use? Sorry couldn't be more assistance. Brian |
No thats what is weird, nothing has changed!
i figured agpgart was graphics, i do not have an agp card. I only get those errors on boot up. |
This happens still with less frequency since I removed unused apache modules. anyone have a clue as to why this would happen?
When I do a ps -efH, the apache processes all arent children of the initial on, but owned by 1. Code:
root 6574 1 0 Apr17 ? 00:00:00 /bin/sh /usr/bin/mysqld_safe --datadir=/var/lib/mysql --pid-file=/var/lib/mysql/edc.charter-stl.com.pid Code:
[root@edc tac]# /etc/init.d/httpd status |
Could be your system is overheating? I've seen very similar behaviour with video cards running too hot, care to describe your setup in a bit more depth?

Sure,
I obtained an old compaq proliant computer. It has smokin fast dual 800mhz. it sits in my basement, on a shelf with plenty of ventalation. When it stops abrutly, whatever is on the screen is completely frozen, I am not running a gui, it hosts my server. I have KDE installed, but it is not running most of the time. I really do not know if the problems im having with apache are relevant to it freezing up. Traffic is pretty low, 1GB a month max, and the freezes are random. The area is pretty cool (68 F at most) It runs mandrake 10, apache 2. I have 1 GB of ram, when tested with a ram checker there are no errors. I have also check the harddrive for errors, there are none, it just completely stops logging when it dies. Thanks for the help. |
