Completely Reinstall X

Somehow I've really managed to bugger up X. No matter what I try, I can't get it to load. Is there a way that I can completely reinstall X? I want to delete everything that I could have messed up and reinstall it all. However, I don't want to delete all the things that are dependent on it.

What things have you actually changed? Perhaps you can force a re-install over what you have?

I accidentally updated to the -19mdk version of XFree86 and XFree86-server. I've tried uninstalling everything with "rpm -e --nodeps XFree86 packages" then reinstalling with urpmi, but this hasn't fixed the problem.

Did that leave a bad /etc/X11/XF86Config file? Have you reconfigured the xserver?

I tried a bunch of XF86Config files, both for low end cards and high end cards.

However, I just installed the -20mdk versions of XFree86 from cooker - everything works now! I'm guessing something was broken in the -19mdk versions, but I don't know how I would have fixed it otherwise.

Thanks for taking the time to answer anyway. :)

theres got to be a quicker way of doing that:
"rpm -e --nodeps XFree86 packages"

maybe if by omitting ---nodeps then all xffree packages become erased ?

..or /usr/src/redhat/BUILD/xfree86.4.3/xc # make uninstall
?
