Compiling using GNU

alright, as can be seen I'm new to Linux. I'm trying to compile a .c file using gcc however I get errors saying that my header files can't be found. My question is where does the compiler search for my header files because I've been pasting my header files in the usr/include folder but it's not working. Slightly lost,
Renato

Be sure to use forward slashes (/) in sys/types.h etc.

Further, are the permissions on the header files correct? (try to see if they are readable by doing e.g. "less /usr/include/stdlib.h"
