Compiling the kernel


When I did make modlues_install,, unfortunatley my hdd was full. then there was an err. Where will be the already compiled files be placed, so tat I can delete it out.....

Will anything ( complied object files) be placed in a dir other than the source directory?

I ven't done the make install yet.


Pls help me folks

just run

make clean
at the same directory where you have been running
"modules install"

Also you can delete the modules from /lib/modules/<kernel name>

How much space I require ( atleast ) to compile the 2.6 kernel?

Well the space depends on the size/options of the kernel you choose to build

the kernel built will not much space but code compilation will surely take good amount

for example
My standard kernel used to take around 200-250 MB
