Compiling/Learning the kernel

I would like to try compiling my own kernel, but do not know where to look for good, easy to understand guides, HOW-TOs, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to go first?

As its mentioned all the time here: www.tldp.org where they have all the howto's you can dream of.

Theres a great one stickied to the Slackware forum. It works on any distro, its just that Slack encourages you to do it. Its really easy, im no expert and it took me a half hour (w/ compiling time), and it was like 8 simple steps.

PS. Make sure you have Perl installed. I made that mistake the first time. :(

Ive used that guide about 5 times and it worked perfect every time (except for that perl problem).
