Common Things Kernel Compiling "Breaks"

Hi, I recompiled my kernel, and lost my ALSA drivers. No problem, I just reinstalled the alsa-drivers package, but it took me a while to figure that out.

2 questions:

1) What are the things which commonly have to be rinstalled after recompiling a kernel? So far, I have:

- ALSA drivers
- ATI 3d drivers
- nVidia nforce drivers (I don't use these, but I read they have to be recompiled)

2) Is there any way to get around this so I don't lose stuff during kernel compiling?

Thanks

Skazi --

There are just some things that are tied to a specific version of the kernel. When I build a new kernel, I know that I will have to do three things:

1) Rebuild my nVIDIA modules
2) Rebuild ALSA (I never had much success when trying to compile the drivers into the kernel)
3) Re-run my VMWare scripts

It might be helpful to write a script that you can re-run every time you build a new kernel to take care of all of your needs.
