commands

What are some commands to tell me about my HD specs.

I have heard about hdparm, but I always get a command not found, even in root.

Also, other various specs on my hardware like my sound, processor, video and memory.

Then you might not have it installed. You should check your install CD (or if you are using mandrake, urpmi hdparm) and get it installed. I have, at times, had to install it after the initial install for whatever reason.

As for other info a:
lspci (as root)
OR
lsdrakepci (on mandrake)
To view info on your hardware.

HTH

Cool
