command line to Exiting X windows ?

Is there a command line that I can type to exit cleanly from X windows? I'd like to avoid doing 'Killall X' if possible. Thanks.

As root run:

# /sbin/init 3

or

# /sbin/telinit 3

Finally, on many distros hitting Ctrl-Alt-Backspace will kill X but it will usually respawn immediately to a graphical login screen.
