Command line runs back on itself

I'm running Mandrake 9.2. When I'm in console mode and have to type in a very long command line, when it gets almost to the right side of the screen it starts running back over itself, over the prompt and keeps on going. It makes it hard to tell what I'm typing. I had this problem with Mandrake 9.0 also and could never figure it out. I've searched the forums and haven't found a solution. The problem doesn't exist while using X and xterm. I'm using Bash, kernel 2.4.22.

put a backslash "\" when you get to the right then on the next line a ">" will come up. Just continue and hit return when you are done w/ your long cmd.

Hey, that works pretty good, thanks miyake. From now on, when I have a long command line, like cat filename filename > newfile I'll just type \ and hit enter and go to work.
