command line downloading

Folks if this has been asked already, I apologize.

Is there a command that I can use to download a file from the web at the command prompt so that I don't have to chase it down over the web ?

Like in
magicdownload linux-2.6.7.tar.bz2
and it races off and does the searching for
you? None that I'm aware of, but then there's
so many Linux programs out there ... :)

If you mean something like
wget ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kerne...atch-2.6.7.bz2
yes :)

Cheers,
Tink

use wget, or if you want an accelerated download utility, try prozilla (the binary is actually called proz)

those are great if you know the exact location, but for tect browsing i have found lynx very useful.

if you know the location use wget, unless you are running an RPM based OS, then you can run your rpm -ivh/Uvh and enter the URL to the file.

the system will download, then install/upgrade the rpm for you thus cutting out the step of downloading it first manualy with wget.
