command line control center/ text-based administration tool

A few days i installed Webmin (www.webmin.com) on a laptop, a web based administration tool. I found it quite interesting and i thought it would be a good idea if there was a text based administration tool, too. For example something like Webmin, but that would present the options in the command line, something like
"press
1 for partitioner
2 for Installed software manager
3 for Editing an NFS export
4 for Editing a samba file share
.......
"
and then subcategories.
I have been experimenting with FreeBSD on a server i have built (an old PC) and that would be quite interesting and helpful.
I have searched the Internet, but i found nothing. Does anybody know anything? Is there a text-based administration program?

linuxconf used to be the configuration tool which had a text based interface. Most distros do not include in anymore so I'm not sure what its status is anymore.
