Hello,
I've used Ubuntu before for running a server but those days are now over. Last week I decided to use it as my primary OS for home use. I've run into three problems all related with running windows programs on linux. I should start out by saying I'm running Ubuntu 64x on my computer.
First Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare lags on my computer. I understand this because it only runs smoothly on lowest graphics on my windows partition.
Second Team Fortress 2 refuses to launch.
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManage...rsion&iId=9901 tells me to try to launch it with no intro and that command just doesn't seem to be taken by terminal or the shortcut. Linux can't find steam.exe even if I browse to that folder in terminal (though steam itself launches fine by the shortcut).
Third and probably the most important to me Call of Duty 2 is stuck on a black screen when launched.
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManage...rsion&iId=9643 tells me to run DRIconf and run a few smaller tweaks. When I run DRIconf on my computer it outputs:
Quote:
Could not detect any configurable direct-rendering capable devices. DRIconf will be started in expert mode.

So I thought perhaps the driver wasn't installed correctly but fglrxinfo tells me:
Quote:
display: :0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series
OpenGL version string: 3.3.11627 Compatibility Profile Context
|
so I checked to make sure the latest driver was installed via
Quote:
sudo apt-get install fglrx-updates fglrx-amdcccle-updates
|
and it came out with:
Quote:
fglrx-amdcccle-updates is already the newest version.
fglrx-updates is already the newest version.

The thing that really gets me is World of Goo runs fine on my system (linux native) and that needs direct rendering to do so. I know that seemed long winded but I wanted to show that I have tried to solve it and I'm still at a loss. Any help would be appriciated.
