Question Cleanest/simplest way to generate an [MX] request?

probably going to feel stupid after asking but...

i need to generate some MX requests in order to verify my regex syntax for ngrep is working but i'm really not in the mood to install an entire MTA and set it up on my client system.

I keep thinking that there has to be a really simple way to generate one from a CLI tool similar to dig, whois, et. al. but I'll be damned if I can figure that one out.

SoOOoo....

someone throw me a bone here? i'm apparently over-thinking this way too much.
thanx in advance

Cool...I never knew about the -t option...

I've always done it like this...
Code:
dig @server domain.tld MX
...I'm always amazed that there is different ways to do the same thing in Linux
