chrooting problem with ubuntu

I have sarge64bit and ubuntu i386 on the seperate hard drives. I was wondering if they both used the same version of the kernel but for different architectures. So 2.6.12 amd64 for sarge and 2.6.12 i386 for ubuntu would I be able to use modules from ubuntu within a chroot running off sarge? Meaning would it complain about the modules from ubuntu being a different format because it's not 64bit
Beause if am not mistaken amd64 is compatible with i386 architecture
