Software that I am going to use is

- JBoss 4.0.4
- MySql 5.0.27 GA
- JavaEE 5.0 Application
- Open Office 2.0.2

Would anyone suggest me what kind of hardware & linux distro should i be using ?

Ubuntu would probably be a good choice. Keeps it simple and like all *nixes is very stable. Ubuntu should support all of those programs out of the box as well. CentOS has become the new favorite distro for servers. I would definitely check it out. Unless you really need high class equipment. I would middle of road price wise. Your client machines probably don't need FX60 processors, I would go 64 bit though as a minimum if you can. Right Intel dual cores probably offer the best bang for the buck, though I personally prefer AMD (something personal with Intel I guess). For your server, depending on what exactly its going to do, RAM will probably be more important to you than hard drive space. Your processor speed won't be a huge factor but try to get a mother board that will allow you to upgrade if you need too. Unless your server is going to be running large constant loads desktop hardware will probably suffice there if don't want to shell out big dollars for a Xenon.

Forget to tell that the JavaEE 5.0 Application was in house built using Netbeans 5.5 and I am currently using Window XP for development and test(Has no problem). My Linux Server will be running JBoss (Hosting JavaBeans) and MySQL. I have never setup a Linux network b4 and I am planning to use wireless as well. I am willing to try and dive in to the work of linux. Just wanted to know would my learning curve be steep?

Thats a lot to dive in and learn. What would be the consequences if you suffer downtime on tihs server and 6 machines because you run into trouble? Wireless can be kind of a rough set up on Linux, just read the many many threads here on LQ about it.

For your desktop solutions, Ubuntu 6.06 or 6.10 would definitely get my vote. I'm not to familiar with what would be best for a server, so I'll leave that to others.
