chinese?!
i seem to be having lots of apache questions lately, hehe
so i have apache and modssl installed. (i had issues with this before, and the solution was to uninstall+reinstall apache. i still haven't reinstalled perl or php, so i may run into some other problems i had been having) but my question has nothing to do with that. the question, then, is: on netscape and other browsers, i can load my apache server page fine. things look good there. however, on internet explorer, my index.html page is defaulted to chinese!!! how and why is that happening? (note: i don't have an index.html file. i only have the files as default that are listed in /usr/local/apache/htdocs which are: index.html.he.iso8859-8 index.html.ru.cp-1251 index.html.ca index.html.it index.html.ru.cp866 index.html.cz index.html.ja.jis index.html.ru.iso-ru index.html.de index.html.kr.iso-kr index.html.ru.koi8-r index.html.dk index.html.lu index.html.ru.ucs2 index.html.ee index.html.nl index.html.ru.ucs4 index.html.el index.html.no index.html.ru.utf8 index.html.en index.html.po.iso-pl index.html.se index.html.es index.html.pt index.html.zh.Big5 index.html.fr index.html.pt-br in IE, index.html.zh.Big5 is the file that somehow has priority.) and another note - english is the default language preference |
I recently built a new machine for someone and added acrobat reader and in order for it to download the images that were placed I had to add the Chinese font that the page used or graphic was written in. the text all came in fine, but any images that were in the document(using chinese script) would not come though.
you might look at www.adobe.com they have several of different font types available. go here : http://search2.adobe.com/cgi-bin/que...chinese+script |
i guess, but my question is: where the heck is the chinese coming from? if my default is english, i shouldn't get chinese. and why this is only happening on IE and not netscape is beyond me.

I think this will help it sounds like your machine is set for some reason to have set chineese as a high priority than english. This link might give you some help.
