Checks printing fine in dev... printing *very* slow in prod

Hi Folks.

We've recently run into a strange situation and I thought I would ask for suggestions.

We are running linux version: Enterprise Linux Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (October Update 6)
Nahant

We are on Oracle Apps 11.5.10.2 and database 10.2.03.

We recently had to change signatures on our check run.
We changed the signatures out and the new signature file size is much bigger due to new requirements.

The checks are printed to an xml file and then printed to the printer.

When running this process from dev, it works just fine.
When running this process from prod, it works, but it is *dog* slow.

The versions of Oracle and the database are the same.
The desktop from which the process is launched is the same for both dev and prod.
The printer receiving the output is the same for both dev and prod runs.
The filesize of xml file is the same in both dev and prod.

Prod has been bounced just to clear up any phantom processes and reclaim resources, but this had no impact.

I'm not a hard core linux guy and would appreciate any tips or suggestions you may be able to provide.

*************************************************** additional information **************************************************

Prod and dev are on two separate boxes.

We are using CUPS
The PDF file has embedded images (I previously referred to this as the xml file)
The file size is large in 10mb order (this is the signature file I previously referred to)
It is converted to PS using XPDF (pdftops) for printing

Please let me know if I can provide further details....
thanks in advance..........Wayne

hello,

There really isn't enough information to help you... but the only thing I can think of to give you is your dev and prod environment on the same or different networks?
