Exclamation checking for KDE... configure: error:

When compiling things for KDE like styles i get this errors when configuring it:
Code:
checking for KDE... configure: error:
in the prefix, you've chosen, are no KDE headers installed. This will fail.
So, check this please and use another prefix!
I havn't changed anything recently and I used to be able to install styles and KDE things just fine, and I don't know where to start with this prefix thing(i read the manual entry but it didn't seem to help).

help.

presumably you simply don't have kde-devel installed, or some -devel package, whatever kde calls their libraries...

I figured that part out but I then have a problem with the package installer. It won't let me install the devel and the normal package at the same time, I need both AND they're cyclically dependant(if that makes sense).
So I'm stuck, I suppose I'll just re-install KDE
