Checking for Hlt instruction

Got an P4 2.8 Ghz DualCore System

Using a 2.6.11.5 vanilla kernel but happens with other kernels too.

The System hangs during boot up after

Checking for 'hlt' Instruction ... OK

I know this could happen to old systems but i've never exprienced it at a system that new

Since dualcore doesn't exist yet, I can see why halting it wouldn't work. 2nd quarter of 2005/beginning of 2006 is the release. Give hardware spec's in detail please.

actually i have a Pentium 4 2.8 GHZ Hyperthreading(actually this is a dualcore system).

hlt is a module that can be disabled in the kernel. Disable and recompile the kernel if it's causing problems.
