check tar consistency

I did tar cvjpf of my / directory excluding /tmp /proc and /mnt to backup all my data so I can change my partition scale then untar it all and I was wondering how I could check the consistency of the file to be sure it will untar when I have my new partition scheme.

'bzip2 -t foo.tar.bz2'
should check that the file itself is not corrupted in a way to disk.
To see that it contans all the files it should, you can
'tar tvfj foo.tar.bz2'; it also checks for lower lever(bzip2 level) corruption on the fly.
