changing windows manager red hat

i have red hat linux installed on my machine.. over the weekend being a multi user machine ... some one changed something .. i dont know what .. but since then no matter what session i choose(GNOME or KDE)... it starts the twm window manager and doesnt start anything else.. what coule be the problem... it is killing all my productive time.. any help is greatly appreciated...
