Unhappy Changing or converting a file to a directory.

I have a very odd problem.
I backed up my linux partitions using a partition backup software (7 tools partition Imager 2005) and recovered it. Now after recovery some of the directories became files. The partition having a problem is '/usr/local'. I did the same thing for '/' partition but there is no any problem on it.

I don't understand how it could happen. Is there any command or tool to convert the files to the original directories ?

Thanks for help in advance.

whats inside the directories that have been made from files? if it is empty, then chances are any command would simply return an empty file of the same name as the folder.
