Changing Host name

Hi......I have a small question...

How to change the name of your machine?

I know there is a variable called HOSTNAME, however setting it to a different value dosent change the machine name.

Suppose my host name is 'leopard' and if I want to change it to 'tiger'....what will be the procedure? Pls suggest...

some distros have /etc/HOSTNAME
others have /etc/sysconfig/network

some have this and some have that, and some have something else.

or just type this

hostname yourhostname

you will also want to add the name to /etc/hosts
