changed permissions

hello,

i have a problem.

i have a directory that holds some exe files.
the mode of this files is -rwxr-xr-x.

but,
if i copy this directory to another place or if i zip this directory and then unzipping it, all the permmisions are being changed to -rw-r--r--.

does someone know what is the problem?

thanks.

What do you use to zip it with?
For copy you can use <cp -p> to perserve permissions on a file.

you are right.

i used both unix and windows. i tried to copy it in windows and i lost my permissions.
if i copy it in unix the permissions don't change.

to zip my directory i used winzip in windows (i was too lazy to check how to do it in unix...)

how can i zip the directory in unix ?
(i tried gzip but nothing happens...)

thanks again.

Look at <man gzip> to see all the options.
