CentOS install errors on old machine
Hi!
I have problem installing CentOS 4.4. Hardware: Pentium III 600Mhz 256 RAM sil3112 - which is PCI RAID SATA 2x 150 Gb SATA hard disks. We use this machine as a server. The installation find the disks as sda and sdb. Installs aic7xxx and sata_sil drivers. Everything seems ok, but everytime on a different point of packages installation, appears an error (when I press Ctrl-Alt-F4). Just once the install went well, and worked for a while, but again giving that kind of errors and freezing from time to time. Error1: _________ ata1: translated ATA stat/err 0x51/04 to SCSI SK/ASC/ASCQ 0xb/00/00 ata1: status = 0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error } ata1: error = 0x04 { DriveStatusError } _________ Error2: ________ ata1 : command 0xc8 timeout, stat 0xd8 host_stat 0x1 ata1 : translated ATA stat/err 0xd8/00 to SCSI SK/ASC/ASCQ 0xb/47/00 ata1 : status = 0xd8 {Busy} SCSI error : < 1 0 0 0 > return code = 0x8000002 Info fld=0xcc9e1d7, Current sda: sense key Aborted Command Aditional sense: Scsi parity error end_request: I/O, dev sda, sector (some number) _________ I thought this must be the media or CD Drive or downloaded CentOS 4.4 image, but those aren't the problem. I have a driver disk for Sil3112 too, but don't seem to need it. Although I tried it, but no change of the error. I tried to precompile the kernel, but it's almost impossible with this freezes. I tried smartctl on the two disks and they passed the tests. I searched with google, but maybe I don't ask the correct question, because I didn't found a solution. Any help will be greatly appreciated! P.S. Sorry for my bad english |
I did a bit of Googling and found a number of people reporting some odd issues with this card. Before you go too far, though, you should verify that the card itself and the drives are working OK. Is it at all possible to try a Windows install on this system and see if everything works OK? if so you could rule out a hardware issue at least.
Also, if I'm reading right I think that sil3112 is just the chipset -- can you post the make/model of the card? |
Hi!
Thanks for the answer. I tried to install windows xp SP2 (this is what I have), and it didn't found a hard drive at all. I should probably install a 3-th party driver or sth in order to run. There are a lot of drivers for windows, and will try them later. The model of the card is InnoVISION EIO 2 Channel Serial ATA with software RAID controller (http://www.pluscorp.com.au/Product.a...=2&ProdID=8065) I tried to turn off the RAID, but nothing different happened. |
