CDROM stoped working

Hi Peoples

My CDROM stoped working. What I mean is that now I cat mount it or hdparm is it get the error "/dev/hda: No such device or address" but I can boot from a cd distro so how do I fix this? Thank you

'error "/dev/hda: No such device or address"'

Check to see if /dev/cdrom is a symbolic link to the correct device.

Isn't /dev/hda the harddrive?

"check if /dev/cdrom is a sym link" HOW?

hda is my CDROM if it is not, BIOS wont let my boot from it

@ iceman47: not always...my one and only harddrive in this box is /dev/hde and my DVDRom is the first device on the on the first IDE controller.

thanks for letting me know, any particular reason for doing that?

I'm using the onboard raid controller as an IDE controller in order for all of my devices to have their own IDE controller. The system recognises it as the 3rd IDE controller, hence /dev/hde.
